Wzgórza Cameron

Z Penangu wyruszyliśmy w zeszłym tygodniu do Cameron Highlands, do miejscowości Tanah Rata. Spróbowaliśmy pomidorów i były absolutnie bez smaku.

Last week we went from Penang to Tanah Rata in the Cameron Highlands. As we drove the road started to wind itself higher and higher and after a couple of hours we arrived at our destinantion. The Cameron Highlands have their own micro-climat. The temperature stays constant all year at round – 20-22 C with quite a lot of rain. It is very green and some new plants appear – the coniffer trees, tree ferns and many flowers known also in Europe. Everywhere you look there are farms and even the smallest bit of land is cultivated to grow fruit and vegetables, a lot under poly tunnels. The Cameron Highlands are also famous also for the tea plantations and the cultivation of flowers. We went to visit one of the fams where the strawberris are grown in pots and many different lettuces are grown in the hydroponic method. All looked very beautiful but I wonder what taste and nourishment such fruit and vegetables have. We tried some tomatoes and they were absolutely tasteless. We went also to see a couple of the local fruit and veg markets and discovered a new fruit – a Cameron Apple. After some research on the internet we found that the fruit originates in South America. It looks like a large striped tomato and tastes a bit like a melon, quite nice. We haven't tried any new dishes as we have eaten mainly in the local Indian restauratns. There are a few of them in town and the food was great!
It was nice to have a few days' rest from the heat, in the evenings we were even wearing our light fleeses. And again, time has come for us to continue our journey.
